In a recent poll concerning Canadiana
(think Americana, then travel north), beer has been voted by the people
of Canada as their favorite thing to drink. In a survey conducted by
MasterCard during the first part of this year, beer was the favorite
beverage of more than half of the individuals polled. The results of
the poll were released last week, leading up to our Great White
Neighbors’ day of pride, Canada Day.
Other favorites of Canadians were:
Favorite beverage - Beer
Most Representative - Maple Syrup
Most Priceless Symbol - Mable Leaf
Most Unique Clothing - Winter Gear
Favorite Piece of Clothing - Parka
Wow, those are some really unique categories. The survey was
released in conjunction with an event that takes place each year just
north of us here in America, Canada Day. Often overshadowed by the
American celebration of Independence Day, Canada Day is a similar
holiday. Celebrating both the independence of Canada and all things
Canadian, Canada Day has many similar traditions to our July 4th.
They light off fireworks, gather together for barbecues, and drink beer
like it’s going out of style.
Personally knowing many Canadians, I feel sorry that I missed the
celebrations associated with Canada Day. Canada has such a rich
history and many traditions. Why if it weren’t for Canada, who
would’ve played Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties? Fonzi? Don’t think so. And who would’ve sung Summer of ‘69 if it weren’t for Bryan Adams? Neil Diamond? Forget it. You don’t honestly think Baywatch would’ve survived purely on David Hasslehoff’s amazing acting abilities, do you? Two words: Pam Anderson.
So to all you people who missed Canada Day this year, put down your
Budweisers for a minute and pick up an ice cold Labatt Blue. Now say
it with me, “Cheers, eh!”
