OK, let me describe what happened to me. I finished a keg about 2 months ago -- well, I didn't order another one because I was going out of the country and figured I'd just fill it when I got back. Then I tore my Achilles' tendon and basically couldn't go downstairs to the basement where the kegerator is for 7 weeks. This week, after being cleared to walk, I was able to go downstairs and check things out. Well, the C02 tank was empty so no beer tonight!
So my question is: was there a slow leak in the system while I was not using it for now almost 2 1/2 months? The regulator I have does not have an o-ring or washer, but the C02 tank that I had got from the gas supply store actually did have an o-ring, so I thought was adequate. When I was using the keg a few months ago, I did not appreciate that I was losing C02 pressure (but I could be wrong as I was not checking it regularly). So first of all, was I wrong not to put an o-ring or washer on the regulator? Do C02 tanks typically have O-rings like this one does (see pic)? Or can you have a leak because the regulator and tank are connected to an empty keg?
