I have an old Beverage-air BM23C running but not cooling. Compressor fan and interior fan running continuously but not cooling. I just replaced the condenser fan a month ago and everything was fine. I tested the terminals on the compressor to ground then and everything was OK. No oil leaking.

Three things to check with 1st...
1) is your evaporator coil frozen?
2)did you put correct condenser motor in? Blade on correct direction?condensor could coils clean?
3) i try jumping out Tsat . That will run unit full crank. If it runs and runs and runs. It will get too hot and overload should kick in.Last edited by PointPleasantNJBeerguy; 04-26-2014, 06:30 PM.

2) Condenser/fan motor worked beautifully for about 1 month.
3) The thermostat looks pretty nasty, I think the unit is possibly from the late 70's.

A thirty something year old unit.. Could be a whiole list of issues. All that would require a refrigeration tech to test. Most common one would be you have a small leak in coil and lost refrigerant. And on a old unit like that the refrigerant is gonna be costly.
On that note you might be beating a dead horse on this unit.

I agree, I may have to let this one go. When I replaced the condenser fan motor ($28.00) I also replaced the overload protector ($12.00) but not the start relay. The compressor checked out OK then. I found some burnt wiring and repaired it. I am going to check wires supplying the compressor. I looked at the thermostat, it is very corroded but the unit runs continuously without cooling. It ran great for one month with the new fan motor but I suspect the compressor may be bad now. I'm not really familiar with refrigeration, except for working on my two kegerators and this one which belongs to my son in law.

Beverage Air 302-677A, Beverage Air Relay
This is the cap my bm23 uses even though they don't list it as a for the bm23 it wasw the correct one.
Beverage Air 302-919A, Beverage Air Capacitor
and while your in there its cheap enough. replace overload too..

Thanks for your help. I replaced the overload when I changed the condenser fan motor. Mine does not have a capacitor. The number(s) on the start relay are 3ARR12 and PB216, it is a GE. The numbers on the compressor are AE160AT-117 E L0278A 33834 AE3417A LRA22.0 V115 Hz60 V100 Hz50 PH1. I can't find any manufacturer name on the compressor. The kegerators is an old BM23C. I have been told I could install a 3 in 1 but I'm not sure how those are wired.

Generally a 3 in 1 is used as a last resort. If the unit continues to run with the 3 in 1, consider yourself lucky. The unit may run fine for a very long time or it may kick tomorrow, with something that old you just can't tell.
