Beer Tower Top

I recently bought a beer tower (specifically the DS-243 - the 4 inch Brass tower with three taps) and I had a question about the design. Is the top of the tower supposed to be flat or angled? Also, I was under the assumption that the tops of these towers are removable but the one I just received won't budge (it is also tilted towards the front so it may be jammed). Aren't the tops supposed to come off so you can clean/replace hoses and hook up the air flow tube?

Use a piece of broom handle to tap it off. Then replace it straight.
