My fridge is 18" deep with doors off, but the shelves on the door stick in about 2". So whats best way to remove the shelves molded to the door of the fridge? will it hurt the cooling at all?

Pull back on the inside of the door seal. You should see some screws. These hold the seal on and the inside door molding. Remove and replace with plexiglass or aluminum. 1/2 kegs are 18" in diameter (some a little larger, some a little smaller) I would make sure it will hold one before I removed the molding. Shelf is nice if you can leave it. It also ensures the door is square.(Better seal)It's not what you do that's important, it's who you do it with!

says a keg is 16 1/8" here. Ok i made a template and going to check it out tonight to see how the fit is. If i have to I'll just cut the shelves out for now and replace it later

Most kegs are under 17". But I enjoy a few Coors products.
There kegs are 17 1/2" Plus you want a little extra for air circulation. Some kegs are pretty straight up and down, while others have the "bulge" in the middle like me!!! Good luck! It's not what you do that's important, it's who you do it with!

I am feeling more confident now after finding this guy. He has same exact fridge as mine and looks like it first perfect

My converted fridge is about 18" deep, but there's a visible edge/border on the inside wall of the fridge that marks where the shelves stop. Long story short involving electrical, we removed the shelving panel in pieces, but have yet to get around to replace it with something (we were thinking adding more insulation). The fridge is pretty old, and has a couple rods and turnbuckles on the inside of the door to keep it square. I wish we still had the shelves so it could be used to store bottles, right now there's random sixers and bombers just around and on top of the keg. One thing to check is where the little switch is that turns the light on/off. In ours, the switch was depressed by the shelves on the door, and when we removed them, the fridge thought the door was always open, and the evaporator fan never brought the cold air down from the freezer. Easiest way out is some duct tape, but if you want a more professional look, the switch can be bypassed completely.

Somewhere on this board is a thread by some dude that converted a vintage fridge and he replaced the door panel with a fiberglass panel like you would use to panel a restroom wall. Didn't look too bad if I recall correctly.Malt is the soul of beer... and yeast gives it life..
but the kiss of the hop is the vitality of that life!
My three favorite beers: The one I just had, the one I'm drinking now and the next one I'll have.

By the way, is this the same conversion? When you say porcelain, I think of the antique, vintage type of fridge.
Spray Paint Kegerator Fridge?
I have a full size fridge turned kegerator. How much spray paint will I need to cover 3 sides + top. What kind of prep work do I need to do other than clean? Primer? Sand? BTW: its porcelain.Last edited by fnmocurtis; 09-01-2009, 05:28 PM.It's not what you do that's important, it's who you do it with!

It is porcelain, but not vintage, its probably 25 years old. Its the same one used in this link http://www.micromatic.com/forum/us-e...-now-open.html
And it is only 18" from the very back to the front. its 9" flat, then 9" on an angle with a 4.5" rise. Atleast I thought it was 18". I just tried my 16 1/8" template I made and it looks light it might be closer to 19". Ok it looks like I dont have to remove the door shelves, and I am planning on mounting the tap in the same location he did. Also on the spray paint topic, I just got done painting it. I cleaned it, sanded it and sprayed it. I plan on building my platform tomrrow and when my kit arrives on thursday putting it on and getting my keg friday. Might need another coat of paint.Last edited by Biggie313; 09-01-2009, 08:53 PM.

Borrow an empty keg
If you are concerned about your fridge accommodating your keg of choice, I suggest you pay a visit to your distributor and ask to borrow an empty. Take it home and see how it fits. You might not need to make any door mods at all but if you do, at least you have a keg model to work with. (You will probably have to pay a deposit on the empty keg but you get that back when you return it).
My fridge is 18" x 28" and I can fit a 1/2, a slim 1/4 and a 10# aluminum tank with no problem. The shelves are still on the door.
Good Luck!
