regulator difference?

What is the difference between the regulators for beer and those designated for soft drinks? The 'soft drink' regulator can be set for a higher pressure? Why are the soft drink regulators 'not intended for beer?' Not a fine enough control?

beer regulators have a softer diaphragm spring, this allows finer low-pressure control. sometimes you can replace the spring in a soda regulator with one intended for a beer regulator and it will work just fine. i have done this with NADS and taprite regulators since both companies make soda and beer regulators and replacement parts are redily available.

the output gauge will also be different, but is easily replaced. the pressure relief valve (if present) will also be different, but can also be replaced.
