idea for kegerator to reduce noise
By Randy from Fairfield County, CT on Wednesday, August 05, 2009

I agree with it being noisy - however the best way to combat this is to buy yourself extension copper coolant lines, disconnct the compressor and and run everything to the furnace room. Keep the kegerator anywhere you want if you can disquise the lines or hide them in a drop ceiling or wall. Quality and smart liquor stores do this sometimes to reduce noise and heat.

Love it, though noisy

I've had this for 5 months now and I really love it. If you are using it for 1/4 or 1/6 kegs, you have enough room to keep a spare 1/4 keg in there plus the 5 lb. CO2 bottle. I now have the CO2 outside of the kegerator, snaking the hose through a convenient knockout in back. I mounted the brass mini mushroom tower (Item # MTM-3BR) on top, giving me three drafts to pull. I currently have a 1/2 keg and two 1/6 kegs.

The only drawback is this system is loud. The condenser is *always* running, producing a loud hum. (It has always been this way, even before I started using the knockout through the back, which you may be thinking is leaking cold air.) When it bothers me I just put on background noise. I don't know if that's normal or not because I only have on kegerator :P

I recommend it. The guys that remodeled my basement loved it and have already installed one on their next remodel.
