Default Ice Cream Chest Conversion Question

I recently obtained an old Ice Cream Chest with the plan to convert it to a kegerator with a tower. I bought the Brewer's Edge Digital Temperature Controller to regulate the temperature. The unit has a thermostat in place but even at the lowest setting, it's too cold. The BEDTC won't regulate the temperature. What should I do?

My guess- remove the unit's thermostat and hard wire it to run all the time. This way, the BEDTC will be the only thermostat running this bad boy.

Your thoughts?

That'll work. Or you could just turn the old control as cold as it will go & then use your new control to regulate the temp.

Tried it that way too, no dice!

How can you test to see if the controller is bad? I had to send one back already because the display was bad. The unit worked fine, but the digital screen was screwy. Could I have gotten two crap units in a row?

You're going to have to define "screwy". I don't see it likely that two in a row could be bad. Those are fairly reliable controls. But, stranger things have happened.

The unit would display to top bars of any of the numbers. It was like one whole line in the screen was dead. It turned a 5 into a funny looking backwards c.

I'll call on Monday and see if they will swap me for another unit.
