Question Not getting cold

Hello all,

I have a kenmore keg dispenser and for some reason it stopped getting cold.

Last week I shut it down to a quick thaw (5 days) and I plugged it back in yesterday and now it will not cold. As a matter of fact it heats up a little.

The pump is running (vibrating) and gets very hot, but the coil on the back is room temp. The inside plate is also room or slightly cooler than room temp.

Now granted the unit is 10 years old, but still looks new and has been used for most of that time.

Any idea what could be wrong? Should I fix or replace?
Thanks
bob

I had the same problem and what i did was reinsulate all the pipes in the back and cover the hole where the co2 line connects and man it works great now. It was freezing up real bad in the back and just not would not get cold. The refrigerator man told me to insulate and told me that would work and i was real skeptical but he was right. It now works and my meister is 25 years old. Try it. Cheers.

A question or two... when you defrosted the unit I presume there was a big ice buildup.
Did you attempt to chip off the ice?
If so, did you accidently hit the evaporator causing the refrigerant to leak out?

If this is the case do not run it anymore. Get someone to look at it. Depending what the evaporator plate is made from (aluminum or copper) will determine how easy it is to repair. If it is stamped aluminum it must be replaced, it cannot be repaired. And that may be cost prohibitive in itself.

Later, THE ICEMAN
