Default Cleaning Beer Engines Properly

Is there anything special I need to know about cleaning a beer engine. The engine is a block that sits on top of a bev-air cooler. I assume I would use a cleaning pot and leave the lid open but is there anything I can take apart to clean as well? I couldn't find any brand on the unit to aid with advice. Thanks for the help.

Ed-
We clean several accounts with engines, and we use a pot and pull chemical through as you said. The only thing different is that we will pull the unit apart every month (2 cleanings) and inspect the gasketing, ect. Beer engines are basically a large, horizontal picnic pump, so after pulling whatever face plate there is off, you'll unscrew the "top" end just like replacing parts in a picnic pump. hope this helps
