CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) is a normal element of beer (the bubbles). It is used to push beer through beer lines and to maintain the carbonation levels of the beers. Nitrogen is a gas that is used to push beer through lines when distance demands too high a pressure to use CO2. Too much CO2 and the beer becomes over carbonated. A nitrogen/co2 blend is used to push Guiness and other nitrogenated beers to keep the CO2 out of the beer and allow it to be pushed at high pressures through a special tap, this is what causes the creamy texture of a Guiness.

I don't know if that is what you are looking for or not but I though I would give it a shot.

I'm guessing you mean N2. Nitrogen

N2 is a gas used in beer dispense. It is also most of what is going into your nose right now.

N2 doesn't dissolve well into water, CO2 does. Beer is mostly water. If you use a mixture of N2 and CO2 you can put more total gas pressure into a keg, without putting extra CO2 into solution (changing CO2 levels in finished beer changes the perception of flavors and mouthfeel).

the hydraulic pressure in a static draft system is the same as the gas pressure you put into the headspace of the keg. there are advantages to keeping this pressure above what you would be able to use if using 100% CO2.
