kegerator temp

hello all
i have a new kenmore kegerator and my question is the temp inside.i have a 1/2 barrel in it and the temp on top of the keg is 40deg and on the bottom of the frig. is 33deg. what temp do i go off of ? i only have this problem with 1/2barrels not 1/4 barrels

Your best bets are to either put a glass of water in there and measuring the temp of that or to pour a glass and chug it then using the same glass measure the temp of that liquid. Either way what you are shooting for is the liquid temp, too much goes on in that kegerator with regards to cycling on/off and doors opening etc.

I go with the temp at the bottom, that's the location the beer is drawn from inside the keg. When I set my liquid thermometer on the floor it reads 36 and on top of the keg it's 40. Seems to be working ok for me at that temp, I've had problems before w/ the beer getting cloudy when it's too cold.

what if it freezes? i have had that happen where the glass with the thermometer froze solid.
