Default Chest Freezer question

I am looking to convert a chest freezer. The inside depth (from front to back) is 16.5 inches. While researching 1/2 and 1/4 keg dimensions I get anything from 15.5 inches to 17 inches in diameter. Does anyone out there use a converted chest freezer with similar dimensions? I went to a beer store today and measured several of their kegs and the domestic brand kegs seemed to be about 16 inches. I know how to modify the height of the freezer but I wanted to talk to somebody who has actually fit a keg in standard sized chest freezer.

I would appreciate some help.

Thanks.

I just modified my 7.0 cu ft chest freezer and was in the same perdicament as you. With the plastic weatherstripping covring the top edges of the freezer I measured my width to be 16-5/8". I cut the edges off that to make it 16-3/4" and was nervous. I bought a pony of miller lite to test it out and it fits fine, I've got 1/4" - 3/8" to spare. My gut would say that you would be alright with standard sized kegs but your best bet is to see if you can bring home an empty of your planned beer and try it out.

One other thing to keep in mind is if you are planning on using the slim 1/4 barrels (was my first plan) make SURE you can get them. It seems that in the chicago area they are pretty much an unknown.

I used a much bigger chest freezer, but it should work out. Watch out with coors light kegs. they are larger then most, have an extra ring around the keg. I can fit two regular ones easily side by side but when I get two coors lights i have to really angle them to fit.
