Default CO2 Pressure Problems

After I tap the keg, and I turn the CO2 tank open to apply pressure, way too much CO2 is released, so much so that the guage is max'd out and I can hear the pressure - very loud. When I close the valve the pressure on the guage reads about 10 psi but all the pressure disappears in about an hour or so. Can anyone help me to find where or why this is happening? I've tried adjusting the set screw to adjust the flow of CO2 into the tank but I have convinced myself this is not the problem.

Thanks for reading and any responses.

turn the CO2 off at the check valve and the tank. Back the regulator screw out most of the way. Turn only the tank on and check the gauge. If it is below 10 psi, turn it in, if it is over, back it out further. If you need to bleed pressure off the keg, there is a release on the side of the coupler, pull the release, recarbonate at 10 psi and try it. Depending on the draw, lift, etc. you may have to bump the CO2 up or down.

Thanks, I tried that multiple times. I finally just decided to take the coupler apart and noticed one of the washers inside this complex mess was bent and folded over a little. I don't know if that was the cause, but when I put everthing back together it worked perfectly.
