Default Off Taste Yuengling

I have a 1/4 of Yuengling in my summit kegerator and it just tastes bad. It has a very carbonated aftertaste. The foam pours very tightly though, sometimes with a few larger bubbles. Bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass. I don't know what that means, just some info for you.

I have the temperature at 38 and pressure at 14.

This is the second keg that has gone bad. After the first bad one I came here and read everything on this board and in the FAQ. From that I corrected the numbers, I used to have about 42/8 for some reason...I also cleaned the lines, faucet, and tap out real well.

So after all those corrections, this new keg tastes off just after 5 days.

Also, possibly related, when I pour a beer, the first second or two comes out very foamy, resulting in 1/2 foam glass. If I pour another one right after, it's perfect. Is that just because of the initially warm faucet? If I open the fridge and look at the beer line, foam, and eventualy air, gather at the high point of the line (the line travels down after leaving the keg before it turns to go up to the faucet).

Thanks for any help.

-Rob

first off welcome to the boards Rob, I dont want to discourage you from your purchase of a kegerator, but if I had to do it all over again it would have been a fridge conversion. the tower is the culprit with kegerators, they are insulated and cold air cant circulate up there unless you install a fan and ducting. my unit is a kenmore and I have MM's smartstrip on the keg with a calibrated thermometer in a cup of h20, both are reading 38f at the bottom of the keg, when u pour a couple drafts in succesion and measure the temp. it is 42f, a fairly large change in temp from just a short distance.

Hello, I just had a 1/4 of Yuengling my temp was 38 and pressure was about 11-12. I had no problems. I have a Kenmore kegerator. Yes if after not pouring a beer for a while it will be foamy. I pour a second or two into another container than pour my first beer, then I get a nice poured beer. I hope you have better luck in the future. Nothing like having a freshly poured draught beer! Default Yuengling troubles

I'm having the same problem with a 1/4 of Yuengling. First pour is always 1/2 foam, then a perfect pour. Funny thing is, after that good pour, if I wait about 15 min and pour again, more foam as if it's the first pour. I have a Danby kegerator and have done the resistor mod and added a blower to cool the tower. Beer is 38F in the glass. Also have the original 4ft (or 5ft, not sure) beer line from keg to faucet. Have tried CO2 range from 8 to 14 with no luck.....is it the beer?????

I had a similar problem as just mentioned above. My set up was as follows:

- Full Size Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator
- 12' 1/4" ID beer hose
- 15 CFM Blower and hose
- 10 PSI

I set this system up per this link found on this site --> http://www.micromatic.com/beer-quest...r-aid-106.html

The document recommended a 1/4" ID beer hose due to the length of my run (10 feet from top of keg to beer faucet).

My first two kegs through this setup generated 1/2 foam on the first pour and a perfect pour right after that. Pouring another beer after about 15 minutes would be exactly the same. The beer was flowing pretty fast our of the faucet on each pour so I believed my problem to be presure related. Several adjustments to the CO2 resulted in no improvement.

I was finally able to correct my problems by doing the following:

- replaced the 12' 1/4" ID beer hose with 12' 3/16 ID beer hose
- placed the beer hose inside of the blower hose to keep the beer line cold up to the tower.

As most standard kegerators come with a 3/16" ID hose (typically five feet), I would perhaps recommend obaining a longer run of hose. This, in theory, should increase the restriction of the beer flow, which in turn should slow down the pour rate without having to sacrifice the PSI of the CO2.

Just my thoughts....

Dave
