Default Kegerator not getting cool enough...

I Have a Perlick Kegerator that I bought from a friend that is about 2 years old, very good condition. It has sat around not used for a while though. I've never had a Kegerator before so I'm extremely new to this. At first it was ALL FOAM, Co2 is at about 14lbs. But even letting it sit over night, the beer is still too warm. I am going to buy a thermometer today. But I guess my general question is how long does it take for a Kegerator that has been sitting for a while to get to proper cooling temperature? And how long does it take for that full Keg to get to proper Temperature.

Also, is there any insulating I need to do? The Co2 tank is outside the Keg. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I wasted about 2 pitchers of beer last night, I don't want to waste the whole Keg.

I got my new unit last year and the manual suggested something like 12 hours to properly cool down. when you bring a fresh keg from the store it is a good idea to let the beer settle down from handling and the drive home. I put mine in the unit about 4-6 hours untapped, then tap that hummer and enjoy. if you have a tower like mine you probably will encounter foam issues due to the warm tower

Well I don't want to go to all that trouble. I started it up around 9pm last night. The last time I checked it was about 7am this morning. So I am assuming it should be ready to go when I get home from work. USMC, thanks, I figured it wouldn't happen in an hour, but I was impatient and ended up drinking a few warm beers.

And as far as the conversion stuff, the reason I got this and got such a good deal on it is I know a guy who works @ the perlick ******* which is about 5 minutes from my house. These things are great pieces of equipment, I'm confident I won't have problems once I figure out what the hell I am doing.

Blaker, No doubt about it if I were going with a commercially made system it would most likely be a Perlick, especially if I had a friend in the business that got me a great deal. If you don't mind saying, how much of an investment did you make?

I believe it was a 12 or 1300$ unit a couple years ago. Got it for 400$ He gave me 2 Co2 tanks with it, one already full for me. The face on one of the guages that came with it were slightly bent. So he just gave me brand new guages as well. I was pretty excited when I found out he found me one. I got my checkbook out immediately.

I contacted a perlick rep. before I got my unit and the quote was like $1400 with delivery. mostly all the baltimore bars have perlick equipment and was interested in it. but a lil too much for me at the time

Well, figured out my problem. Got home, the inside of the Kegerator was about 53 degrees. Realized the Condenser fan wasn't running, it must of jammed up from sitting for a year without operation. So stuck a screw driver and got it loose, bam, in about 5 minutes it was down to 40 degrees. After an hour of running it's at a chilly 33 degrees. This thing is impressive!
