Exclamation Bar is built, now for the kegerator......

So the bar is done (earlier post) but now for the hard part. I have a magic chef mini that I want to convert. Problem is I don't want to take a chance on moving the freezer line on top and ending up with a giant paper weight. Any chance I can do a door conversion like a big fridge insted of drilling through the top of the mini and having to move the freezer component?

I checked your other post to see what you meant by "freezer component". Are you talking about the cooling element, sometimes called cooling plate? A picture is worth a thousand words. I'll be here all day.

Moving that would be risky. I think that you could do a door conversion. Just think about where the tap will end up. Will it be knee high, will it get bumped by people that aren't paying attention (drinking), can you put it on the side? I know I'm answering your question with questions, just trying to give you some things to think about. Is the cooling plate covering the entire roof of the cabinet? Could you put the tower "off center"?

Good point. If I do the door conversion it would be about waist high, I have the kegerator on a built in shelf. Of course the tower would look better out the top but the cooling plate takes up a lot of the space in back. I could possibly mount the tower on top near the front of the fridge off center. Just worried if there would be anything of importance running through the shell of the fridge at that location. How could I find out? Sorry I have pictures just not with me to upload, they are at home on my computer.

You need to consider the interior dimensions of your unit. Will any size keg even fit inside of it?

    Here are keg dimensions....

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.
Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery
and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might
be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself,
"It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than
be selfish and worry about my liver."

Pretty sure all but the half barrel and quarter will fit. I measured and I should have enough clearence. I might need a low profile coupler though.

you shouldn't have any problems going through the door,in my expierience most doors don't contain anything mechanical or stuctural, just make sure you seal it well on both sides for cooling efficency.

Is the freezer cold plate shaped like a box and cover the top of the fridge itself? If so, how will you fit a half barrel in there, seems like it wouldn't be near tall enough. If not, you should be fine to cut through the top, just slowly to be sure you don't hit anything along the way. I looked into using a Magic Chef unit and couldn't find one tall enough.
