Talking kegerator vs fridge conversion no contest!!

According to my continuous reveiw of this forum all foam issues ,fan issues have to do with adjustments and mickey mousing the thermstat to even try to get the right temp. To the tower with no foam with resisters at radio shack for the fan ect. When we all can help all the new comers without alot of funds by buying a used fridge and using a coversion kit ,or are you trying to impress how you distribute your beer more important than the actual taste!

    Miller lite man,
I like your taste in beer, so don't take this the wrong way... I don't think anyone is trying to impress with how they distribute the beer. I would "think" that anyone that has a beer meister, either store bought or conversion kit did it for the same reason. They like the taste of draft beer and it made more sense than buying cases of beer... Less cleanup and taste better.

Space limitations and aesthetics are the main reasons for buying a kegerator vs. a fridge conversion. Lack of funds would be the reasons for getting a $500 unit vs. a $1k+ unit. Modifying the cheaper unit is what one does when they get fed up with the issues you just described.

I agree that aesthetics are a major player in many posters choice for a prebuilt kegerator versus a converted fridge, that in addition to limited technical expertise or skills in building one. In my case, the wife would not allow a second fridge or freezer into the family room, which is where the kegerator resides and we spend most of our time(that and the fact that I would have a hard time building the thing including parts and shipping for the same price I paid with the system complete, not including my time which is neither cheap nor plentiful). Also some have space constraints that wouldn't allow for a large freezer or fridge. Where mine sits it is unobtrusive and most don't even know what it is whereas, a fridge wouldn't be as easily concealed, not to mention if one wants to build into/under a counter top as well. Since there are as many reasons as their are choices, I suggest that we just unite and help improve the experience rather than question choices and motives. These arguments are a futile as mac vs. pc or OS X vs. Windows vs. Linux arguments, there is no right or wrong, just what is best for the individual user.

I went with a True TDD-1 kegerator because it was going to live out on the patio and the heavier duty refrigeration design of the TDD-1 seemed better suited to being outside. Aesthetics also played a role, as a converted fridge would be too large and obtrusive and was not what either the wife or I wanted to look at on the patio. A chest freezer conversion was ruled out by my not wanting to hang block and tackle or a crane to get a 1/2bbl keg in there. To each their own and for their own reasons, I say.
