Default First keg - no foam over! but tastes crappy!

Hi,

I just got my kegerator up and running. I got all stainless steel parts from micromatic and upgraded everything. I got a 5 gallon keg or Red Nectar and hooked it. I was so excited, had been looking forward to it for months. So I poured a couple of glasses and the beer tasted like....well almost nothing. Like an ale made by budweiser.

I took the faucet apart, cleaned everything (the lines were brand new but cleaned them anyways), cleaned a few more glasses....and the beer still tastes wrong.

So I check the keg and there is a big cardboard collar marked December 3. Do ya think the keg is just too old? Or am I missing something?

Thanks for advice!

Definately too old, unpasturized beer should only go 45 days, any more than that and your pushing your luck. Your looking at 5 months here, get a new keg, clean your system top to bottom and try again.

Right on the mark Guys. If you still have your receipt, take it to the retail outlet and demand a refund. Be careful on future purchases. Know the date the product was packaged. Call the Brewery if you need additional coding info.

What is an AZZ? Is that similar to a BUTT?[}][}][}][}]

Thanks everyone. I got the keg at Beverages and More, they usually have good service so I will be taking it back. I am going to call the Brewery tomorrow and see what's up. It probably sat at a distributor for too long. Very bummed but more kegs will be on their way haha

I took the keg back and they are ordering me a fresh one. I will be sure to check the date on top before I leave the store this time!

In the meantime I drove down to a local brewery and got a 5 gallon keg of IPA. Woohoo!
