Elbow Shank

So I wake up on Saturday morning to find a pool of beer in my living room. The elbow shank appears to have a bad weld where the metals meet. Is this a normal problem? The leak is where the metal elbow meets the threaded shank. I purchased a MM tower a year or two ago and this elbow shank was part of the tower assembly. I ordered a Stainless Steel Elbow Shank from MM to replace the old one. Anyone ever had this happen? I got some plumbers epoxy that seems to have solved the leak, so I didn't lose the keg.
