Unhappy ALL Foam

Hi...I am new to this forum (not sure how to use) but I am an experienced beer drinker. I have had a Beverage Air kegerator and have had it almost 5 years now. I have been through at least 20 kegs but I now have one that almost "gurgles" and "spits" foam then runs nothing but foam. I end up with a glass of ALL foam!

I have contacted the beer manufacturer and he stated that the beer should be at 40 degrees and 12 - 14 psi. I have the temp at 40 degrees and have tried everything from 14 psi down to 6 psi and still the same result (just slower at a lower psi). The beer is RedHook Longhammer IPA - and I usually have IPAs on tap.

The only change in my system is a new set of gagues....however, they are the same as the ones that I had previously.

Grateful for any help I can get!!!

Thirsty in Atlanta!

It could be the keg itself. If you untap the keg and look at the rubber seal that sits around the ball you see on the top there, you'll see a raised ring on the rubber ring. Dry it off and see if it looks chipped or mangled in anyway this often causes the symptoms you are experiencing. Also check your temp with a calibrated thermometer to be sure your temps are right. It could need servicing by a refrigeration company as these need recharging now and then.

Ed,

Thank you so much for the quick response. I did get an e-mail back from Red Hook and they said they thought it was a bad keg but when I called the package store to see if they would take it back, they won't . I will check the seal and temp anyway just to make sure!

Thanks for the info!!!

I would tell Red Hook the package store refuses to take it back & see how fast it takes the package store to call & apologize for being such jerks.
Also, find out who the distributor to the package store is & tell them about those clowns.

Duff Beer,

Thank you for the suggestions!!! I sent an e-mail to Red Hook so I will see what they say. I will also look up the distributor for the package company and let them know as well!!

Thanks again!

Beth

+1 on contacting the distributor. You won't get very far with Red Hook, I doubt. But the distributor might get you somewhere. If you didn't, I'd make sure I talked to a manager at the package store as well. The liquor store should take it back. They don't eat the cost. That all rolls back up to the brewery and believe me, they'd rather have you as a customer than quibble about 1 keg of beer.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.
Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery
and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might
be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself,
"It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than
be selfish and worry about my liver."
