Default 3 inches of foam at the start of every pour

I get 3 inches of foam every pint I pour, then the beer comes out as it should. What is the typical cause of foam coming out initially, then stopping by the end of a pour?

If you have a tower, then the most probable answer is that the tower is not cooled and the beer in the tower is warmer that is why you have foam at the very begining of your pours.

How do I cool the tower? That sounds like the problem to me because after the initial foam, the beer pours perfectly.

To cool your tower you would idealy want to purchase one of the blowers that micro matic has for sale. they are like $100 though. If you don't have that kind of money to spend you can do what I did. Get some copper wire that is pliable and wrap it around the tube that goes up into the tower. Copper conducts cold very well. Then get a small desk fan and aim it up toward the hole for the tower. Doing this will let more of the cold air up into the tower and keep the beer in the line up there colder.

My kegerator is a chest freezer conversion and the freezer came with a basket that sits on the ledge between the lid and body. So i just put the fan in that and moved it under the hole for the tower.
