Default many problems with used kegorator

I just bought my first keg for my new to me kegorator. the beer has a taste that isnt quite right. the head is also kind of filmy (a little soapy) and dissolves in a wierd pattern. the beer is alittle flat, and the first cup within five minutes or so is about 75% foam. i looked at the faq page, and it seems like my problems could be any of those listed. the temp and pressure are reading the suggested 35 degrees and 12-14 psi, respectively.
Anyone have any suggestions?

thanks
eliot

i have had a kegorator for a while now and still see a lot of foam at first...once you pour a glass of mostly beer the foam is not a problem. usually for me it is about the first glass and a half...after that it is not a problem.
the draught beer is much smoother than that of bottles and as long as your temp and co2 pressure are right on you should be able to enjoy the beer you have on tap. right now i have pabst...before that i had budweiser and am looking forward to michelob lager next. both bud and pabst have been ok but have not found that real good taste i have been looking for.
the foam should adhere to the sides of the glass as you drink the beer and leave a spiral pattern on the inside. remember not to wash the beer glass with normal dishwashing soap as it leaves a film on the inside of the glass and goofs up the taste of the beer. also when you pour the beer into the glass make sure you have wet down the inside of the glass...this helps to pour a less foamy beer than an dry glass.
good luck and let me know how it goes.

oh yeah...i forgot to mention that if your kego is used did you clean it out properly before tapping your keg?
this is very important to do to make sure you get beer and not foam.

man, that post is from August of 2005 from a member with 2 posts. I doubt he's checking back for an answer, still

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.
Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery
and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might
be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself,
"It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than
be selfish and worry about my liver."
