Default How cold do I want my fridge?

How cold do I want my fridge? I'm getting nothing but head. Could this be because the fridge is too warm? Thanks

Depends what you're serving. In general the range I've seen recommended here and elsewhere is 36-40F again depending on the specific brew. I do mostly micros so I have mine in the 38-40F zone, usually nearer 40F.

How cold is your fridge? Is there an uncooled tower or faucet involved? This is common source of foaming.

Yes the tower and faucet are uncooled. I'm using an old fridge which I have turned up all the way. It just doesn't seem cold enough. I'm not sure what the temp is, though. I'll check tonight. Would a cooled tower and faucet work with a fridge that won't get cold eough? Thanks for your help.

The uncooled tower is almost certainly your problem, though you should measure and see that the temp in your fridge is actually in the zone. You probably want to insulate the tower a bit more but as far as options (blowers, glycol, etc) mmsccott will better know what to do. The problem is, providing the fridge itself isn't too warm, the cold beer hits the warmth of the tower and all the CO2 comes out of solution.

Lest you think I'm some sort of draft specialist I've picked all this up from having a kegerator a short while and reading this forum!

Ok, actually mysetup doesn't have a tower. I realized this after a little research. yes, I am new at this. I just have the pour spout comming out of the side of my fridge. Any ideas? It also seems that some times the beer runs out of the keg fine an foams up along the way to the spout in the line.
