Default Thermostat Question?

I have a Haier kegerator and yes I am realizing what a piece of crud it is. Can anyone tell me, if I remove the thermostat and plug the kegerator into one of those Johnson external thermostats, will it work or will my compressor run non-stop? I am thinking it would work since the Johnson unit would control power supply to the entire compressor. Is this correct or what? Help me out!

JC

It's not broken, just doesn't work good enough at keeping the beer cold. I am hovering around 40-41 degrees. Everyone seemed to have good luck with the external thermostats so I figured I would just do that, will it work?

I'm not sure if it will work, but in that thread people seemed to have the same problem and were able to adjust their thermostat to fix it.

I used a outside control on my first fridge but I didn't bypass the thermostat because it would get cold enough. I was just trying to be a perfectionist and have the digital readout of the temp.

good luck

I just added a controller, and the beauty of it is it will run the compressor depending on how you set it. Assuming you buy a submersible unit, that for one will cut down on the number of times it clicks on and off (a fluid will not fluctuate as much as the air). On top of that you can set the temps it turns on and off. In other words, you can make sure it always stays 37 degrees, or let it kick on +/- 1 degree from target, or +/- 2 degrees from target, etc.
It's really easy to setup, and works great.

BTW...you don't need to remove the thermostat. You set it to the lowest setting and plug the unit into the controller. The controller will turn the fridge on and off depending on temp. When it is on, the thermostat at lowest setting will always turn the compressor on. It works great. Although I have heard the Haier does not get cold enough. I think there are answers to that.

What is the manufacturer of the controller? How easy is it to install?

I have a Haier fridge, and it took me a while to notice that the notch for the "current setting" is on the bottom of the dial, not the top. Could it be you're using the top of the dial by mistake?

With this one, it has a plastic arrow (like the Prices Is Right wheel). So no, I think I have the knob set correct. I did find the adjustment screw once I took off the thermostat cover. Just don't know how much to turn it. It did work though, got my unit down to 40deg before I unplugged the unit thinking the compressor was getting way too hot. Going to play again tonight.
