More Guinness Foam
I get nothing but a glass of foam. I have the Haier Model HBF05E kegerator. The temperature in a glass of water on top of the keg is 40 degrees (as low as it will go) and I now have the pressure set at 25 lbs although I have tried everything from 10 to 40 lbs. I do now have mixed gas. The place where I got the keg initially provided me with a canister of CO2 that I used for a couple of weeks before I got them to admit that they had not provided the mixed gas. The question is ‘could the CO2 I used for two weeks or so corrupted my keg of Guinness’? Should I demand a new keg? Also, there is a little white ball in the coupler. What is the purpose of this and is it necessary? When it’s in the coupler, it takes several minutes to draw a glass of foam.
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

I dont know bout gas mixes, but the little white ball in the coupler prevents backflow into the keg

Yes the co2 that you had hooked up for 2 weeks overcarbonated the guinness. Also do you have the Guinness faucet hooked up? If you do the pressure should be closer to 35 PSI with the 75% Nitrogen/25% Co2 mix.

Also, on that Haier kegerator. They are terrible at keeping beer cold on the initial thermostat setting. Go to the following link and follow the directions if you actually want to keep the beer cold:

I did this with mine and it works great now. I know several other people have done it as well.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. Yes I do have the Guinness faucet (actually my second one...the first one, after a week, would not shut offf completely). Is there any way to get the excess carbonation out of the Guinness? I have bled all the pressure off the keg a couple of times already?

Thanks, BigStein...I followed your directions last night and was able to bring the temperature down to 32 degrees overnight. Now, if I could only solve the foam problem.

You can turn the pressure off to the coupler but leave the keg tapped. Shake the snot out of the keg and then pull the safety relief valve on the coupler. Do this a few times until you do not have gas coming out the relief valve. The problem with this is you have no clue as to how much carbonation you are shaking out. Flat beer! Personally, I would take the keg back and demand a new one.
