Panther Ice Tower
Has anyone installed a Panther Ice tower?? Have a customer that wants a quote. I know it takes two seperate glycol power packs, one for the beer line and one for the tower. The tower gets incased in 1/2 inch of ice. What problems can I expect?

Hey Wineglow,
We have an account that has a similar tower. We didn't install it, but i have checked it out. It seems straight forward, just make sure that you find a place for the tower deck that has a good deal of ventilation; where the staff won't put beer cases, menus, bags, boxes,... on top of it or they'll choke it.
Coors Light (or any light beer i guess) has a tenancy to freeze occasionally in the faucet. The ice melts when you clean the lines too.
All in all, the ice towers look great. I swear it sells more pints.

I have never installed an ice tower, but is there any reason why you couldn't use a power pak with two pumps? Or, does the power pak for the tower have to set colder? Tapman

Yes, the glycol unit for the icing on the tower needs to be set colder than the one cooling the trunkline. I just sent a bid on a system with two cobra ice towers and a platform rinser tray. I'll keep you posted. If it works out it will be installed the week after mothers day.

I read that they require a relative humidity of 25% or above to work right. Since the humidity is lower in the winter and some heating systems reduce the humidity even more could this be a problem?

We installed two Cobra Ice towers last Sunday. They require a lot of BTU's to keep them frozen. We needed to put in a 125 ft. power pack just to keep the towers iced, and a 75 ft. power pack to cool the lines. Had to go into the thermostat and adjust the temperature and the differential on the 125 ft. to get them where we wanted them, 25 degrees, 2 degree differential. Friday was their first big night with them installed, and the compressor went on the existing walk in cooler. Saturday new compressor and everything is great, customer is very happy. I'm hearing a lot of customers are taking pictures with their cell phones and calling their friends to come and see them!
