Default beer lines

I have recently bought a kegerator from a bar. The kegerator has been sitting for about 2 years. Its a Perlick. Im replacing virtually everything in it except for the fridge portion. I was told that the beer lines from the tap to the shank need to be at least 5 1/2 feet long or I will get excessive foam. Is this true? The beer lines in it when I bought it are only maybe 3 feet long.

You were told right, you need the extra length to add resistance to the flowing beer to slow it and control foam. Start with 6 feet and cut off in four inch increments till you have your system flowing like you want.

That depends on the temparature and CO2 volume of the beer your tapping.

Howdy!
I just bought a new kegerator. I have the same problems lots of people have with too much foam and have tried lower pressures. So, if I replace the ~3ft line with a 6ft line that should help? It makes sence, longer hose, greater pressure drop once you start pouring.

Also, I think the faucet that came with this Haier Kegerator is sad. It would not turn off at all the 1st time I pressurized the line. The only way it will not leak is to reverse the seal so the flat side is facing the radiused sealing surface (I'm assuming reverse since I can't find any drawings). The stem tends to turn and sometimes won't shut off or pour properly. Is this something I can fix or do I need to buy a new vavle? If I need a new valve, which is a good one?

Thanks!

Get a whole new faucet, they are not that expensive and it will solve your problem with leaks, and definately change the beer line to six feet. Once you have that done we can talk you trhough balancing your system.

Thanks Gunns!

Any recommendations on a good faucet? Or one to avoid?

Any of the faucets from micromatic are good, if it were me I would go with all stainless, a bit more expensive but will last longer and clean easier. Here's a link...
