FYI.
We are know blocking IPs of spammers. Hope this slows them down. Let us know if there is a reduction in spammers in the next week or so.
Thanks,
Scott

Will do Scott!
I'm a moderator on another group and we have to approve members just for
this reason.
BTW ... sure do enjoy this forum

Is this where to report spam?

Fishing for non compliance
Barry,
I just started this thread to help the moderators quickly remove those who can't play by the rules.
I guess I have adopted the job of so called "Garbage Collector".
I call it "fishing for bottom feeders".
(I'm a moderator on a couple other groups).
You're more than welcome to help!
As you can see from my posts above,
I copy the link location of the offender (offenders ID) and paste .... then copy the thread location(s) from browser window(s) on the next line(s).

A significant number of spam IPs have been banned lately. Have we seen any reduction in these type posts?
-
Tomorrow will tell if the ones you banned today helped. I'm getting ready to send you four more IP ranges of ones I just now deleted.
-
Too bad you don't have a way to approve membership.
This would stop some .. but not all of the problems.
A good tool is having the option of approving a newbies post for a period of time to make sure they are proper.
We'll just keep fishing for now .. or till our arms get tired of pulling them in

Barry,
Got rid of these guys...
Scott and other Mods, as far as banning goes, I think it's perfectly acceptable as long as the IP's originate outside of westernized countries, as that is where the majority of spam comes from...
However, the guy that I just deleted and banned, 'fat loss fitness info x' came from, 92.21.33.186, which is an IP from the UK, handed out by 'opal telecom' - a large ISP providing to both business and residential customers in the UK, and is probably a dynamically assigned IP, which will eventually make it to another user, so therefore should not be banned...
Additionally, it was probably just a jumping point for the real spammer, who is likely using a computer that was infected with a virus as a stepping stone. This is what makes these sorts of things so difficult.
A modicum of research should always be done to determine where the spam is coming from before banning IP's from a forum, or legitimate users may end up not being able to access the service.

Most of the guys won't really get looked at! The ones I really hate to see post up are the porn sites! We can do without that here. Thanks!

When time permits, the IPs that are known spam are researched and banned. It is difficult to do this on a daily basis. It probably is impossible to get rid of all of them. Once a process is put in place to stop them they figure out some other angle to get through.
All we can do is continue to stay ahead of them and delete ASAP. Psychdad PMs a list of IPs to me from time to time and then they are banned. This works well. Most sites with lists of IPs that are spammers do not allow you to copy multiple addresses at a once. If these can be listed for me, it is easier to copy and paste.
Or, if anyone has a site which lists the latest nuisances and they can be bulk copied, let me know.
