Default Home to Tailgate Keg

I have a kegerator with a pretty full keg that I want to bring out for a football tailgate.

My question is can I remove the keg from the kegerator/CO2 system and then bring it out to the tailgate and use a handpump?

I'm new to this so wasn't sure if all the beer would shoot out if I took the coupler off or if the beer would be flat b/c it was a CO2 system and now its using air.

Thanks

Yes you can remove the keg & no it won't shoot all over.

The only problem is if you were to do it the other way, using the hand pump first & then go to your kegerator. The problem that way is that with the hand pump you are introducing air/oxygen to the beer which can spoil beer over the long term. But generally, as fast as kegs are used up when used with a hand pump, spoiling of the beer isn't a problem.

And welcome to the forum.

Just make sure you're going to kill the keg pretty soon. If you use the handpump, and then put it back into the kegerator, the beer might go bad in a few days.

If you do put it back into the kegerator, apply the co2, turn it off, and then purge the coupler vent. Do this a couple of times to help purge the air out of the keg. Then drink heavily. If you have a wife or girlfriend who disapproves the heavy drinking, tell her you have no choice

I'm just curious as to WHY you would want to do this. Why not simply get a new keg for the game?

Well I bought the keg about a month ago when I got my kegerator and so I figure its at the end of it life anyway. So I'm not going to try and put it back in the kegerator. I'm guessing there is maybe a 1/2to1/3 eft so that should be plenty with all the other stuff we got.

Thanks for the Replys.

Plus... new keg, extra deposit... then you have a whole keg that may go bad if it doesn't get finished..... etc... I'd rather take a partial keg, too.

Yup...I'd finish that one off and have bottles or cans in reserve too.

Yes you can but soon a new hybrid kegerator is going to be out soon. This new unit will let you take your keg unit anywere you want and keep your beer 33f for 16 hour with out ac power.

Will it come with a trailer to tow it behind a vehicle? Otherwise good luck picking up a kegerator and throwing it in the back of a truck.
