Default Good Party Setup?

That kit from Micromatic.

A barrel large enough to put the whole keg in, filled to the top with ice. The keg in one of those keg cooler bags.

Bud Light and Miller Lite would be the primary beers for parties. Nothing else.

Does that tower tap work well or does the normal hose work better? Would I have to length or shorten the hoses any for good pours?

There is one good review for this kit, any other feedback?

I've used a similar setup (home fabricated) with good results. Since the faucet is ridgidly mounted to the coupler there are no line lengths to adjust... I would assume this would work as well or better than a standard hose setup, and it certainly looks better.
