Default What fridges have people used to make kegerator?

I am a college student, which makes me tight on money and space...I am looking to make a tower kegerator that could fit under a bar that I am going to build. I can afford around $400 for the kegerator part of this bar. I have been looking on craigslist for cheap mini fridges, but i dont know what fridges house a 1/2 barrell keg. I was wondering if anyone could share what fridges they know can house this size keg?? Or any Ideas on how to make a kegerator for around $400, all info appreciated!

Default new fridges cheap

I got my frigidare top freezer full size fridge @ Lowes for 100.00 ( normally 498.00) check your local Lowes and Home Depot stores because they are always denting appliances so you can purchase them as is on the cheap nice thing about having a full size is you can put 3 1/6 kegs in it ( more taps, also you have full use of the door and 1 extra shelf for other drinks! I purchased through the door kit from micromatic and I love it

notice all the other drinks

I got lucky and talked a buddy of mine into giving me his 1940's GE refrig that he had in a cabin we partyed at all the time. It is about 5' tall and would not do you any good but it sure looks cool.

Try searching Craigslist for kegerator. I found mine for $375 with a full CO2 and 2 15 gal empty tanks. Also try Keg, Kegorator and beer

Default Go w/a Freezer

Fitting a half keg or full keg can be hard. The keg diameter is the tricky part. Check HERE For sizes. The Slim half kegs MIGHT fit, if you removed some of the Door plastic. Also be careful of freezer space in your fridge and the actual Element that protrude into the usable space of the fridge. Try and look for Small Freezers that will have more room.

You would have better luck trying to fit too Sixtels or 1/6 "logs" into your traditional mini-Fridge. GOOD LUCK

Default Follow up

I actually found one guy online that took the door off his mini fridge and built a separate space around it so he could house a keg or two, complete with a nice door and such. It was impressive because he was definitely thinking outside the box. FOUND HERE
