Sixth Barrel & Slim Quarter Availability List
I have had little or no luck in researching what brands of beer are available in these handy and convenient sizes. So, I thought I would start a thread in which we could post our findings and keep it as a reference to share. That being said, I'll try the first product:
In the Pocono Mtn region of PA, Yuengling Lager is available in the Slim Quarter format. It is easy to keep it iced up in a Brute waste can.
-
If your from the Pocono Mountain Region try Stegmier 150, sixtel, Stegmier Summer Wheat, sixtel. They also brew Pocono Lager, sixtel, similar to Yuengling Lager. These are all brewed in Wilkes-Barre PA by Lion Brewery
-
1/6ths
The only brew i've ever come across in the slim 1/4 format was the amazing Yuengling sadly enough. As far as 1/6ths i know around me (Towson MD) i can get Mich Ultra, Killians, and Sam Adams i know for sure but there are more smaller name brews as well. Ive seen Bud Select in a 1/6th as well but not in this area.
-
Today I spotted Miller Lite in slim quarters in northern New Jersey.
-
Here, near Baltimore MD, Clipper City & Domion Brewery beers are available in sixtels....
Hail to the Redskins!
-
Staten Island
Ippolito Distributors (for Annheiser Bush) says they have Michelob Amber Bock and Bare Knuckle Stout in sixtels. And certain "seasonals" from time to time.
-
Dominion Lager 1/6 on tap now here. Dunno what else to get next, but I do like the smaller kegs.

Where are you located?

I'm in MD right near Skinsfan. I'm a Yueng fan as well, but I usually do those in 1/2's for parties. I really wish I had a local place that could get some of the Sam Adams seasonal stuff in 1/6's, but they told me all they could get were 1/2's.

It appears that AB uses these for six different products. At ant given time, three are available. Year round you can get Bare Knuckle Stout and Mich Amber Bock. Then there are four "seasonals" : Winter Borbon Cask Ale, Spring Heat Spiced Wheat Beer, Beach Bum Blonde Ale and Jack's Pumpkin Spiced Ale. I have never tried any on the seasonals, but have enjoyed both the stout & bock. Has anyone else?

Alaskan Amber

There are more if you change to SoCal location but you get the idea. There was a list somewhere online which described the sizes available by brewery but it seems to have disappeared.

Just Learned of 1/8 Sankey Barrels Type "D"
While this is slightly off topic, it applies to the small keg application. Labatt USA, located in Norwalk Conn, provides at least one product in 1/8 kegs. Yes that's correct! Labatt Blue Light is offered in 3.9 gal kegs. I experienced this product in Orange Co, NY. This creates many more possibilities for small gathering keg parties and kegerator versatility. Just wanted to share....
-
In the NYC Area
I just learned that Blue Moon, Killian's Red and Sam Adams are available in sixtels. Just passing this along
-
slim 1/4
I also spotted Miller Lite in a slim 1/4 today down in MD
-
I'm in SE PA and my local beer guy told me that only yuengling lager is avail in slim qtrs. I doubt that's true tho. I love YL and that's what i bought but i hope there are others to try - slim 1/4 works best for me.
-
AB, Miller have slim 30s in select markets and Coors is probably right behind them. Othe craft brews and imports are utilizing this keg size as well. Has the advantage of the sixtel but with more volume (tall quarter bbl).
-
I was told by a distributer in south west PA that Yuengling would not sell the slim 1/4 kegs to the public anymore due to people not returning the kegs back to Yuengling. He said that only businesses were getting the small kegs. Thats a real bummer because the Yuengling 1/4 keg is one of the main reasons I purchased my kegerator.
-
I just bought a slim 1/3 of Ying Lager last week and I know that the distributor just got it in a day or two before. Deposit was $30.

...as a follow-up to the Clipper City sixtels availability.....they're now much more difficult to get, in the Baltimore area.
I was going through them too quickly anyhow, so I've raised the white flag and started buying 1/2 kegs!
Hail to the Redskins!

Thank You!

Brian:
That was a very informative post! Thank you for the effort. I believe there are many of us out there with kegerators that would enjoy having more than one product on-tap. Sixtels allow that to become reality.

In the Baltimore area, I picked up a keg of Sierra Nevada Pale ale last night, and a rep from Troegs brewery was giving out samples. (Great stuff, especially the Hopback Amber & Dead Reckoning Porter). I get my kegs from Christos in Ferndale, MD.
Anyway, he told me that The following offerings, are available in sixtels.
Hopback Amber Ale
Troeganator Double Bock
DreamWeaver Wheat
Rugged Trail (nut brown ale)
Troegs Pale Ale
Nugget Nectar, (seasonal available in Spring)
Sunshine Pils (another seasonal)
Hope this helps!
Hail to the Redskins!

Slim Pony Kegs is somewhat a missnomer. Pony kegs are 1/4 bbls of the short stubby type. There are slim 1/4s that are the same height as 1/2 bbls but with a much slimmer waistline or footprint(11" vs 16") in your kegerator. They are also easier to ice down in a trash pail! Whatever, I know that Yuengling Lager is available in slim 1/4s throughout most of your state. I believe that Miller Light is distributed in the slim 1/4 format throughout the northeast. That gives you a choice of two good products to help spread the party cheer! I hope this helps and maybe someone could add to the list. Don't rule out sixtels(1/6th bbl) there is much more available in that format. Thanks for posting!

new addition
greetings to all...............was on my route yesterday, and seen a new seasonal in my area. Being distributed by A-B,Winters Bourbon Cask Ale. Available in sixtels or bottles. Smooth tasting, nice flavor, just HAD to try a pint after servicing customer. (Must maintain quality control standards!). A pretty decent effort from A-B. cya..............brianatkcdraft.

Here in Fort Collins, Co (Most famous for Fat Tire) you can get slim 1/4 for beer from O'Dells brewery. Right now I have a slim 1/4 of Easy Street (a American hefa) in my Kegerator.

sixth barrel and slim availability list
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a keg of woodchuck at? I live in Indiana and I went to my local liquor store and they told me that woodchuck wasn't available in kegs. Me and my wife have eaten at several local restaurants, where we saw woodchuck on tap! We even talked to the manager at one restaurant about trying to get a keg, and he took down our phone number and told us that he was going to give it to his distributor, and that we would be recieving a call back from the distributor, and we never heard anything back! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would be somewhat interested in this as well as the wife likes the woodchuck. While I have never specifically looked for it before I don't remember seeing it anywhere for purchase in keg sizes.

Sixth Barrel & Slim Quarter Availability List
After doing some more research on the woodchuck kegs, I found a place called Sam's Wine and Spirts(Buy Wine, Spirits, Beer and Gifts at Sam's Wines and Spirits) They sell the kegs of wood chuck in the amber draft and the dark and dry 802 draft. It looks like they only come in the 1/2 barrel kegs, and the amber costs around $150 and the 802 around $200. They are located in IL, and it looks like they have pick up and delivery. Luckly for me I live in South Bend, Indiana which isn't too far from Chicago where they have a few locations! Can't wait to go and pick up a keg of woodchuck!

Maybe you and madcrazy should split the cost and the beer by doing a closed transfer to an empty 1/4 bbl. Or find another fan and split it into two 1/6 bbls. Just a thought should a 1/2bbl be more than you can drink in a reasonable time frame
