for 600 it's easy to build your own, VERY EASY. i've got a danby 3.2 freezer and purchased a kit from micromatic. it's at my parents now, and strictly runs coors light with the greatest of ease!

With a budget under $600, you really have little choice but to buy something that needs some modification. A tower cooler isn't NECESSARY, but you'll have to get used to a foamy first pour without it. I would buy a Danby, and spend the $1 and 5 minutes it takes to install a resistor to fix it's cooling issues. It is really easy to do. If you have the capability of inserting a power cord into an outlet, you have the skills necessary to perform the resistor mod.

I bought the Kenmore kegerator at Sears for $600 and couldn't be happier, easy set up, temp holds at 38 and no foam! It also runs so quiet that when I first bought it I thought it wasn't working. Check it out!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have the same question.
My trusty Kenmore from the 70's is rusting away and I want a new kegerator, but can't find many that hold Coors kegs.

What's your budget and which units have you rule in?

You might want to check on the Coors kegs before you limit your selections - I think they are switching away from the wide body version to a standard one. This will open up your choices.
What I have: Haier two tap, 525 faucets, tower cooler, 10' lines

Budget around $500. Haven't ruled any in because so few say if they will hold the kegs or not.

                    Erik13,
As djc says double check with the keg shop and see if they are going away from the old standard Coors keg. If they say old keg, I'd go with DIY (refrigerator or freezer), if not feasible then look at the Haier (Summit 490 is EXACTLY the same and MM store says it will fit), MM doesn't carry the Haier but can be had elsewhere. Summits look like also will fit (you may have to buy used to get under $500), either should be fine but best way is DIY.

can anyone confirm this? I'm going to have to special order a quarter keg of coors light.

the only other option would be Bud/Bud Light which they carry in store

Ill confirm it I work for a Coors Disritbutor, The 1/4 barrel of Coors Light now comes in a 7.75 slim quarter barrel. Just a little larger than a 5 gal. ( At least in Ca )

                            Thanks for the quick reply...

So they switched from a pony keg to a corny keg?

Unfortunately the kegerator I have only fits the straight wall pony keg, like bud light

No, they switched from a stubby quarter barrel to a slim quarter. Same volume, different shape:
