  • New here, Danby DKC586bl troubleshooting

my girlfriends uncle just gave me his old Kererator which is a Danby DKC586bl. He said that the only problem was that he was getting water all over his floor, which I imagine is the condensate line. 1st things 1st I gave the unit some much needed TLC and cleaned it out by basically taking the thing apart inside and out. It now looks like new and I've brought it home and plugged it in. Good news is there's no water yet, not even in the drip pan unless it's just evaporating before I see it. However, whenever the compressor kicks on it sounds pretty loud. Is this normal? Do I have a problem with the compressor motor? I'm going to continue to keep an eye on it all week and provided there's no real problems, the mods will begin, yes I searched first and read through quite a bit of old threads about tower coolers, fan mods, temperature gauges. I'm excited but don't want to dump a bunch of money into this if this unit has bigger problems. Thanks for the old threads and any info yet to come.

Never mind the noise it's making. While home on lunch break I heard the noise kick on so I went and did some investigating. It was blatantly clear that it is actually the fan inside the unit. Easy enough to switch this out. I'll continue to monitor the water situation. Also, the rails on the top of the unit were broken so I pulled them off and now I can only find the left side rail online. Is there any specific places I should be looking to locate parts?

      Chunkyblamm,
Search 'net, found a couple in my first clicks, Sears repair sells parts but you need the exact Sears part #, look for the info plate in back, this will have all you need to find parts you need.

I could only find the left side rail, are you sure you found both sides? Could you send me the link to the right side rail?

          Chunkyblamm,
I wasn't specifically looking for the parts, I would need the specific model # from the info plate, you should be able to get part from Sears parts/service center, it might take time but they should have the part.
Honestly I'd go DIY woodwork to re-build the top, I've seen a member make a beautiful wooden rail.

The model number was included in the original post but I cant' find the right rail. I was more asking if there was some site that carried parts that maybe I didn't know about. I think at this point I may have to make something. I searched for the wooden rail but cant find it. Does anyone have pictures of custom rails?

              Chunkyblamm,
I think it was an old post, I don't think I can find it again, I made a shelf for the one I take care of using dowels and plywood. It is all about creativity, you could look at wood accents at DIY stores, I've seen some really nice ones, check it out yourself at Lowe's or Home Depot.

I was thinking about using mini baseball bats or hockey sticks and painting it either Phillies or Flyers since the front door and top both need painting.

                  Chunkyblamm,
There you go, some furring strips (wood 1 inch wide and 1/2 inch thick), get some dowels from hobby or DIY store, strips top and bottom with dowels between, then glue bats or hockey sticks to dowels or maybe both.
For my friends unit, I got a poster frame and put a bunch of vintage Budweiser coasters, attached to front via magnets.
