  • Kegarator cooling question

I have a kegerator with the freezer on top of the keg compartment, is it better to have the freezer part filled with frozen bottles of water not blocking the air flow or an empty freezer for cooling?

    Welcome to the forum...

Opinions vary on this one. Some would say it makes no difference but I am of the opinion that if you already have a cold mass, such as frozen water bottles or steaks, rump roast, whatever... the system will hold the cold better.

For a scientific answer it's best in the long run to fill up the dead air space. The savings afforded in cooling cost by doing so however is so small that it's not worth making it the only considering factor. If you do fill it with water bottles or etc. but open the door once or twice a day to retrieve and replace them then you end up losing any cooling efficiency effect that you gained. Ideally utilize the space by filling it with food that you won't need to access very often so the door stays mostly closed and you will realizes 10 cents or less of savings
      a month.
