  • Built-In/Under Counter Commerical Grade

I currently have a Summit built-in under the counter kegerator. It has not been keeping cold for the last several months and nothing I have tried has helped. The condensor plate gets cold but not very cold and has a lot of moisture on it.

I have no apparent leakage I can find. I've insulated the hole on top of the kegerator and used a pvc pipe running from the unit to the tower to make sure. It used to get extreme ice build up on the plate. I might have done some damage as I used to knock the ice off rather than let it melt.

From what I've read, I'd probably have some expensive repairs if I could find someone to work on it.

I've been looking for better quality units such as Bev-Air, True, or Edgestar. The only one I've seen designated as under counter/built in is the Edgestar KC7000SS. Can a Bev-Air or True be used as a built in/under counter if the dimensions line up? My Summit under counter has a drilled out hole on top where the tower goes so not sure if a unit not built for under counter can handle this.

    Thanks in advanced.

    brettmf,
Think Marvel makes an under-counter unit, no matter which unit you will have problems fitting into the old space. Every company has different dimensions and hole at top are different on every unit.
You most likely dented or punctured the coolant line (cold plate), it can be replaced but about 1/2 the price of a new unit (labor included).
If you want to use the old space, get another Summit, no matter which 1 keg under-counter that uses a cold plate you will have a problem with ice build-up. Normally this can be prevented by turning unit off 1-2 hours every morning, I use an appliance timer.

All the commercial single units are really made as mobile units. They can be used as U/C units but losing the nice s/s top with drain. Also blower hoses would have to be extended.

Half the price is half the price. I might need to look into repair. Who does these type of repairs? I'm guessing the big refrigerator guys don't get into these small units but maybe I'm wrong. I'm in the Atlanta area so I'm sure there's a wide selection to choose from.

          brettmf,
Best to contact Summit and see if they have someone in your area, they will check for a leak and suggest a solution. Replacement of cold plate is based upon another member being able to order one online, it all depends on the service person, some may offer a rehabbed unit or they might be able to fix it, with a U/C unit it might be worth it.
