  • DIY Keg lifter?

    Hi guys,

My foam problems have sorted them selves out. keg working great.
i have a different problem now, getting it from the back of my truck into the fridge, 160lbs.

    1. man up and toss it around and hope you don't get a hernia
    2. wait for a friend a lift together
    3. build a lift and do it easily and safely by yourself

I ideas are to create roll around seesaw.
push it over to the back of the truck attach it to the keg
lift 3 - 60lbs buckets of cement to hang individually on the opposite end
roll over to fridge remove buckets
    done

I'm thinking a 2 piece device base and mast
bolting a base together using 2x6's
a base that with the mast removed I can use for moving other things
I'm thinking the mast 2 2x6 bolted together would slide into a square hole deep enough to secure it
i have some awesome 5 inch caster wheels to use.

I have Ideas but would really like some input

how about a moving blanket under the keg and draped down over bumper to protect car(or cardboard). Then lay keg down in car and just use the bumper of the car to support the weight as you slowly slide down to ground.

Easy answer but ya gotta admit such a better bang for your buck buying 1/2 barrels.

How far is the back of the truck from the fridge?! And where are you unloading from and to?!?! Warn winch makes their "pullzall" which is a small electric winch that lifts up to 1000 pounds and I believe has a 12 volt or 110 power supply. If you have a garage with a decent beam over head....put an eyebolt up there and use the winch to lift the keg... Hand truck it to the kegorator. Winch it Into the the kegorator.... Have seen guys on YouTube do it ... Just an idea... ... If it costs to much just simple block and tackle (pulleys) also only works if you have an overhead point to lift from much cheaper and still lifting much less weight

              20GT,
I'm glad you couldn't replicate the problems you and your friend had, it was unusual.
Been thinking about your dilemma, I have the same problem, no extra hands to help, but all I have to worry about is get the keg down to floor level, I just rely on gravity.
Been looking at how to move a keg from the car to a keezer, your original idea was exactly how I thought I could solve my problem. In your case all you have to defeat about 15 inches of height.
I was thinking maybe you could build an elevated cart the height somewhere between height of bottom of keg in car and height of the shelf in kegerator, on this cart you could build a couple of ramps, one going up and the other going. If done right is should be fairly easy to move a keg from car to kegerator.
Do as PointPleasantNJBeerguy says and use a blanket or thick towel to move down ramp to cart, then just slowly inch down to kegerator. I'd use the locking wheels for cart, shouldn't be more than $60 in materials.
Keep membership updated, this is an problem I think many members have.
