  • Help making adapter pigtail

    Hi all,

I have a Nostalgia Electrics KRS2100 Kegerator that I've been using with standard 1/2 barrel straight sided kegs. Recently I decided to get beer from Mack & Jacks brewery and, unfortunately, they use non-standard pony kegs. While I was there they told me I would need to get a twin prong tap since that's what they use with their kegs.

When I got back to hook everything up I noticed that my gas line won't fit to the hose connector on the twin prong tap. So, I would like to make a pigtail/converter that I can use without damaging my existing lines.

The problem I have is that I don't know what the type of connector that the air line (and beer line - it's the same connector) connects to my regular tap is. From what I've read online it looks like a 1/4" NPT. The Amazon page listing the specs for my Kegerator is here: http://www.amazon.com/Nostalgia-Elec...ords=kegerator

If it is indeed a 1/4" NPT then it looks like I can make the pigtail by purchasing a length of 5/16 hose and a 5/16" barbed to male 1/4" NPT adapter (like this one: Amazon.com: 5/16" Hose ID, 1/4" NPT Male Barb Hose/Tubing Fitting Connector: Industrial & Scientific or this one: Hose Barb Adapter Fitting 1 4 inch x 5 16 inch Male NPT FM45 | eBay).

Can someone confirm for me that I'm headed in the right direction with all this? Thanks!

    dprus,
Sounds good, search forum regarding the Nostalgia Electrics problems with connections. The main problem you will have is that connection "maybe" metric, so liberal amount of Teflon tape maybe necessary.
Honestly, if you don't want to damage NE connection, buy a new regulator and use with twin prong, then use NE regulator with standard couplers.
If you do it the way you say make sure you can refill tank readily, if not sealed properly you'll empty tank in few days, again I'd get a new regulator, no matter what you will have to replace non-standard NE regulator anyway eventually.

Did you also try to connect the twin probe to your existing wing nut connection on beer line? I have seen these fittings not line up with standard couplers before.
