  • Stubby handles

Whats with all the bars having these short stubby handles these days ?
They all pretty much look the same other than the logos.

Are the full sized tap handles going the way of Album covers (LP -> DVD -> Download) or is this just a fad

    Thoughts, concerns, comments ?

I'm not seeing it in my local bars - they all use the beer specific tap handle. However at local taphouses they do rely on the stubbies, but I am pretty sure they do that because they change beers so often that they don't really want to constantly be changing out the tap handle.

No these are logo'ed, colored etc. Just Stubby.
        Maybe its a Canadian thing.
I will look to take a pic or two next time I am out.

You can space them closer together if you don't have to deal with the logo on the handle. Plus, bars that have that many taps probably don't want to deal with getting their hands on, storing and swapping out handles when they swap to a different keg. Plus it might be a matter of personal taste on the part of the bar owner.

I always thought that big handles in a busy bar put a lot of wear and tear on the faucets. They are long and they are heavy. All that constant banging in the big handle buy a busy bar tender has got to put more wear on things than a short handle.

On my 12 tap kegerator, I got myself a set of mini pool balls of ebay. I drilled holes in balls 1 thru 12 and JB Welded a stainless nut on the inside if the hole so that I could thread them on the faucet. I screwed the pool balls in place .. numbers 1 thru 12. I then spray painted the front side of the kegerator with chalk board paint, and that allows be to write the faucet number and the beer on the front for each faucet.
