Default Freezer conversion size help

Just ordered all of my conversion parts a couple of days ago for a dual tower and trying to find the right freezer. I am pretty set on a small chest model but which model? I've been measuring them and a 5 cubic feet looks too small with the step inside for the compressor. A 7 cubic feet looks just right to fit a regular 1/2 barrel which I'm thinking of having that option with homebrew. Can someone tell me the minimum inside height needed for this with the coupler attached and or with the low profile coupler? The freezers seem to be 27" inside height. Please help or suggestions. Thanks

27 inches will not be enough clearance for a half barrel with a standard coupler. The lowboy would work though.

Half barrel w/standard coupler - 29 inches
Half barrel w/lowboy - 24 inches

You need to look around for a fridge/freezer that will accomodate your size requirements and also will fit a keg (as you have figured out it's not easy). I've had to find some units for specific sizes and found luck looking in the commercial refridgeration sector and then converting them using a conversion kit from Micromatic.

Default Thanks

Thanks, I have been looking around but wasn't exactly sure how much height I was looking for, that's been the question. I knew 27" wouldn't work but just didn't know if I needed 28, 29, or 30". My double stainless tower and all of the goodies are coming in today and I am going to Lowes tonight to pick up a freezer 6.8 cubic feet that should work great. It easily has 29" with some play in the plastic lining in the lid I could get at least 30" or more. Can't wait to get started this weekend.

Thanks again.

How did this work out for you? Do you have photos? I'm looking at getting a freezer for the purpose of housing two pony kegs. I see I'll need >18" in depth and >34" in width -- height I'm assuming won't be an issue (since the quarters only are ~14" tall).

I'll probably end up with something around 8 cubic feet, because the top will be my bartop and it needs to take up the width of a large threashold between two rooms. My plan is to attach some type of durable surface to the top of the chest (suggestions?), then add a tower /w two faucets (probably offset, towards a back corner), and rails around three sides. I've found many exaples of people converting these chest freezers using wooden collars around the top and re-attaching the door -- however I'm really sold on the look of the towers.

Thank for any thoughts,

-Josh
