Default Will side by side Fridge work?

I have been thinking of converting a fridge to a kegerator and was just offered a free side by side fridge. My question has to do with the CO2 canister. Does it matter whether the CO2 canister is inside or outside the fridge? And if it needs to be inside, can it be placed on top of the keg. Obviously before I accept the fridge I just want to make sure I can use it. Thanks for the help.

It's actually better outside the fridge!

you can keep them inside the unit, mine has always been inside. the only drawback is you cant get an accurate reading on the gauge for the cylinder psi. mine constantly reads approx 500psi until it gets close to being empty.

you will get about 30% more out of that co2 tank if it is on the outside not to mention a more true reading

Yes... BE VERY CAREFUL! Don't hit a freon line for God's sake.

How do I avoid the freon lines? I have not found anything online that talks about this.

What I do is VERY CAREFULLY use a hole-driller to JUST cut through the steel skin of the fridge. Then VERY CAREFULLY dig the insulation out. Then, if there's no freon line in the way, cut through into the interior of the fridge.

Freon lnes are not usually in the side walls of the fridge. Look at the back of the fridge and see where the lines go up from the compressor to the evap coil.
