Frigidaire Beverage Center in garage
Hello,
I have had the Avanti BD6000 now for almost 3 months and it has not worked well in my garage or in my basement. It freezes up or is too hot. Best Buy finally agreed to do an exchange and I'm considering the Frigidaire Beverage Center. It appears to be a bit more sturdy?
Ideally I'd like to keep the unit in my garage. I think the Frigidaire can handle that but wanted to check with others to see if they've done it. My garage is insulated and the temp will get down to about 50 F in winter and up to 90 in summer.
Has anyone used the Frigidaire in the garage before with temp extremes such as this? My father has had a kegerator in his garage for years now with no issues so I'm hoping getting a nicer fridge will also work for me.
Thanks for the advice. Joe

one additional note
The manual says the following about temperatures. Should I take this as gospel?
• Choose a place that is near a grounded electrical outlet.
DO NOT use an extension cord or an adapter plug.
• For the most efficient operation, the beverage cooler
should be located where surrounding temperatures will not
drop below 10ºF (-12ºC) or exceed 110ºF (43ºC).
• Allow space around the unit for good air circulation. Leave
a 3 inch (75 mm) space on all sides of the beverage cooler
for adequate air circulation.

If you look back through some postings you will find a lot of problems with the Avanti. Mine went from 44 to frozen keg with a tiny thermostat adjustment. After nearly a month I took it back and got a fridge to convert. It is in my garage(not insulated) in Texas with no problem at 37. The Avanti is crap return it if you can!!!!

Joe, I too had the Avanti with the multiple issues including too hot or frozen. I convinced Best Buy to give me store credit (with a $150 discount) and opted for the Frigidare Beverage Center. I picked it up last Sat and installed it in my garage. This is temporary, but may be there for good. I did not have much time to mess with the temp settings, but with the control almost wide open, I was able to maintain 38 degrees F. The garage was around 70 degrees F. I have a regular fridge that I keep in the garage and it does fine. Just don't open the door too much. In North Carolina we get 100 in the summer and 10 in the winter for extremes.
I am happy with my new unit. Can't wait to get back home to try it out!! I may opem the themostat wide open to see how low it will go.
