Default Help Newbie Needs Kegerator Help

So I recently had a kegerator passed down to me so I don't know how to use it. In our haste to use it. We went out and already got a keg and tapped it, but we do not know how to adjust the CO2 pressures to dispense a proper cup.

All we get is lots of foam. The kegerator was homemade, so we do not have a manual or anything.

Can anyone help? Please if possible make a layman's explaination step by step. We really don't know too much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THe previous owner said set the pressure aorund 12psi but it doesnt really work.

There is more than CO2 pressure to keeping foam down. Since you were eager to get going, you may not have let the keg settle after transporting it. Always let it sit for at least an hour before tapping it.

Also are the lines clean? Clean lines are important. If this was a used unit and had been stored for a while you may have nastys in the lines causing you troubles.

Make sure the keg is balanced. Search for keg balancing, you'll find tons of info. Keep twists and sharp bends in your beer line to a minimum.

Also it is important to not try to be easy on the tap. You would think pulling the handle back slow and easy or part way will make the beer flow best. But that isn't true. Hold a good beer clean glass about an inch from the tap. Grab the tap handle at the base. Snap the tap open towards you and when the glass gets about half full snap it back closed.

Good luck.
