Default Major Temp Problems

[V]I really hope somebody will be able to help me. As for my previous post my keg did freeze but the major problem now is the fan I installed. I had installed the fan on the right side at the top located about 3 1/2 inches away from the cold plat blowing toward the door. Now this has worked out great but the problems is when the kegerator is running the air temp is in the 22 F and when the Kegerator is not running depending on where the thermostat is will stay in the low 30's. My problem I'm having is I cant gauge where to set the thermostat it's to warm or freezing. The previous day I had turned the thermostat up almost all the way up and the air temp was sitting around 36 F with just the fan on all is well. I come home and it was a whopping 43F the Kegerator did not turn on at all. So at tis point I turned down to blitzkrieg which means freezing to bring down the temp. At this point my liquid temp was like 44 F madness now I don't know if the keg went bad and or how long it sat at this temp but by this morning it was back down to 37 F Liquid Temp and tasted fine. For what ever reason when the fan is on the kegerator seems to stay running more of the time if I unplug the fan it seems like the thermostat will turn on and off more consistently. If I tern the thermo down till it clicks off it will stay off and when the temp rises and it turns back on seems like it wont turn off again. I was thinking maybe a timer on the fan? I hope this makes sense to someone please help A.S.A.P Thank for any help !!!!!!

Ditch the temp control in the kegerator in favor of something accurate. Something like this: http://www.micromatic.com/draft-keg-...s-pid-E26.html or the Dayton unit I use would be far better than what Haier put in in the first place.

The fan you put in won't make the air colder, it will just make sure it moves.

Thank you for getting back with me. I could you advise on the installation ? And how do I disconnect the existing thermostat. Second If I install it in the kegerator how do I run the power card out? Is there a temporary solution ?

Given the example of the temp switch I linked to, you would wire your compressor to a plug that would plug into the switch, then plug the switch into the wall. You would then need to find a safe place to penetrate the wall of the kegerator to install the capillary bulb. The capillary bulb is where the sensing will be. As the gas expands and contracts in the bulb, it makes and breaks the switch. Shoot me an e-mail if you want psychodad@cox.net I can send you links if you want that may better explain.

I punched a 1/4" hole just below the gas line inlet in my kegerator for the temp bulb. Mine is a little different, as it is digital, but the operation is the same. Caulk around the hole to prevent any cold air leakage.(just make sure there is enough of the bulb in the cold section to move it around. I have mine in a glass of water sitting on top of the keg.)

Also, as far as wiring goes, I cut off the female plug from the thermostat, and wired it to the compressor, bypassing the kegerator's control of the cycling of the compressor.in my case.. my kegerator is a Danby. I cut the red wire just ahead of the circuit breaker, so it still will blow if a problem comes up with the compressor.
I wired the black wire from the thermostat to the red wire, tied the white wires together and grounded the thermostat to the frame of the kegerator. Now the thermostat has total control of the compressor only, and the kegerator has control of the temp display and fan unit. I set the temp to 36 degrees with a differential of 2 degrees. this keeps the temp at 34 - 36 degrees. this setup requires two plugs... one for the thermostat/compressor and one for the kegerator itself.

Thanks for the help. The thermostat I am going to use is http://www.micromatic.com/draft-keg-...s-pid-E26.html which doesn't not allow to submerge the Temp Bulb in water so where would be a good place to put it. I plan on completely taking out the existing thermostat and making the motor run without the thermo hooked up. Then take the plug and kook that up to the new thermostat. And my fan I took a extension cord and cut the end off and wired it up to the fan and ran it down the drain hole which worked out nicely.

I put my temperature sensor in the top of the cabinet near the front as I saw that as the warmest part of the cabinet. The switch you picked out will allow you to do a trial and error placement as long as you don't kink or break the copper tubing. If you damamge that tubing or the bulb, the thing is fubar.
