Default Kegerator Check Valve?

Just wondering if this is necessary in the coupler? I tightened my co2 so tight that it actually ripped through the top of the check valve the washer looking part of it. What is the point in this check valve?

Looks like a duckbill? I think it prevents beer from back flowing into your regulator. I've heard you can get by without it. If you were having problems with a leak at that connection, it will now be worse. Get a replacement as soon as possible.

Is this a Micro Matic coupler? If so, is it a "D" or "S" coupler? If so, this valve is not only the one way valve but is also the seal. If the valve is damaged, you should replace it. You could get by temporarily with a replacement washer until a new one arrives.

Do not risk your pressure system by allowing the beer to back up into it. If so, it will take some time to disassemble the regulators to clean and to replace the pressure line.
