Smartstrip
Got some smartstrips and stuck them on my kegs. I am sure the kegs are half empty but the smartstrips are still showing full. What gives?

You have to "activate" it with hot {100+ degree) water. Even then it seems to go pink again rather quickly leaving a lot of guesswork.

I activated it with the 100+ degree water. It was white all the way down . Stuck it to my kegs and it turned red all the way down. Now I have almost emptied the kegs and they are still red all the way down.

RR,
You have to "activate" it each time you want to check the level of your keg. This is done with the strip on the keg. How it works is the hot water resets the strip and allows a reading but in a few minute the entire strip is cold again and the red goes all the way to the top again.

Gotcha! I don't remember the directions saying you had to "activate" each time you wanted to check the level when I put the strips on. Then again, I put them on after a few Amberbocks!

Do they make such smartstrips for a 1/4 barrel? Or could you use feasibly cut it in half and it still work? Anyone try this? Thanks!

Use the tall slim quarters like I do then they work fine, not sure what effect cutting one in half would have on it's funtioning...

Now that I think of it, depending on how the strip is laid out it probably wouldnt work cutting it in half. I'd have to do some modifications to my fridge in order to get a slim 1/4 or 1/2 barrel to fit inside, a regular 1/4 barrel slides right in.
On a side note, do you find it hard to find a place that carries slim 1/4 barrels of 1/6 barrels? Or can most places just order whatever they need?

No need to cut it down. You will probably have to determine approximately where the bottom of the keg is and then align the bottom of the strip appropriately while allowing top part of strip to simply hang out.
