Anyone care to comment on their opinion of the best oktoberfest this year?? Looking for 2 choices to stock my kegerator. Although, I guess I am looking for one bc it is almost a given that I will get Sam Oktoberfest.....

Spaten is real nice beer...the lager and the Oktoberfest...but hard to get in these parts (South Jersey)......I can get the 5L mini kegs, but I would love one of their 30L or 50L kegs if I could get it locally.

I'm really liking Carolina Brewing Company's Oktoberfest. But yeah, that doesn't help you at all.

Ayinger if you can get it in a keg or Great Lakes which shouldn't be too hard to find.

Thanks for the comments so far...yeah, I have heard for a while that Spaten was real real good. The only problem is that I would have to break down and buy a new coupler for that. I am sure I will eventually...........

I found the Spaten very ordinary...I prefer the Flying Fish Oktoberfish.

Good Oktoberfest
Boulevard Brewing makes a great one called "Bob's 47" however it is seasonal and getting hard to find.

Had some Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest this past weekend, that was pretty tasty.

I prefer Paulaner over Spaten. I actually have Widmer's Okto on tap and I'd say it compares pretty well to the Spaten.

Unfortunately the Oktoberfest was not even recognized as a style in Germany, it was what was served at the Oktoberfest in Munich. Years ago it was a reddish malty somewhat higher abv beer, now a German oktoberfest is basically a helles. Helles is a great style but for what us spoiled Americans want for an Oktoberfest is best brewed here. Bell's, Summit, Leinies, Dundees, and most brewpubs do a great job to preserve the tradition of Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfests are Märzen style beers. Helles/maibock is a different style than oktoberfest/märzen beers.
