Default 50L Guinness Kegs - No Tap =\

Hi, I have gotten a free 50L keg of Guinness for free from my uncle who has gotten those free, we both have no U-Couplers\handpumps for these kegs. If anyone lives near by or knows where to go etc for the U system please let me know.

I've called Draught Services and they told me to contact Diajeo giving me no number or address =\ So hopefully one of you guys could push me to the right direction.

    I live in Hamilton, Ontario....CANADA.

Infact anyone here who lives would like to rent it for like $15 like the beerstore does? I'm sure we could do some sort of deal, probably pay for the tap and return it for with $15 non refund eh?

Thats if we can't buy one.

Look at the top of the page and click 'Beer Equipment Store'.

I've seen that but rather not order it as its from America...I'd be having to pay duty fees or w\e. Last time I did that ended up paying $45 on top of something worth about that.

I forgot to mention that Draught Services told me they had U-Coupler but no handpump, if I bought the coupler what will I need for it? I may buy from here if someone tells me about the duty fees.

How do you intend on keeping the product cold? A refrigerator? A tub of ice?

How long do you expect the keg to last?

You can't use a hand pump unless you plan on dispensing the keg in 1 day. If you want to keep the keg on tap for any period of time, you'll need a beer gas (Nitro/Co2 mix) for the guinness, a nitro regulator to regulate the beer gas pressure, gas line from the regulator to the coupler, beer line from the coupler to a stout faucet. In the beer equipment store, here, there's a stout tapping kit.

It does not include the coupler, or the gas tank. The coupler, you can get, it sounds like. You would have to find a local gas supplier to see if you can get beer gas. (75% nitro/25% co2).

You'd have to check with Canadian customs regarding duty fees. Those fees aren't charged by MicroMatic. Those fees are charged to you by your government.

I'm hoping the keg can be in a room temperature without going bad before opening? I'm planning to have a tub of ice, it worked great and fast with the 30L keg. So what your saying is that I buy those equipment and I'll be able to drink Guinness for a month+ without it going bad :O I just hope the equipment don't cost more then a 50L keg. I'll have a look into this atm.

Ah forgot to mention, does the keg need to be cold after opened the whole time without it going bad?

I'll have to keep it cheap bah. Trust me we had kegs before we can drink a 50L with 10 people.

If you buy tapping equipment, you can keep it for several months on tap without it going bad. With a party pump, you're looking at about a 24 hour window before the beer is oxidized and starts getting infected by the bacteria in the air you pump into it. I've seen where a keg of Guinness cost someone in Canada something ridiculous, like $270.

Guinness is pasteurized, and it comes warm from across the pond, on a container ship, so there's no reason you can't keep it at room temp until you're ready to tap it.

The tapping kit is somewhat expensive, if you're only looking at one keg, but if you think you might get one of these here and there, it might be a worthy investment. Just have your 10 buddies kick in a few bucks whenever they're going to be drinking one of these kegs, and put it towards the tapping equipment. Just make sure you can get the beer gas somewhere in your area before you buy anything.

Just to mention, Guinness will not pour properly from a hand pump at all (unless you have the export stout or the 250 Anniversary one). Unfortunately you will need to get a full set up (or rent one) to get the beer out of the keg

58L keg of Alexander Keith is nearly $300 at TheBeerStore. I've checked Budwieser as well, seems $290 so I'd say $270 for Guinness would be a fair price as it doesn't sell at TheBeerStore. Canada eh AYYY

Thanks for your help, I'll call Draught Services hopefully they have for rent. If others who live near me they can rent their gear to me as well

Thanks for your help, I'll be probably buying if they don't have what we need like the faucet or something.
