Despite all of the problems that I am having with my kegerator the beer is great. I have Firestone Pale Ale on tap. It is almost finished so I'm thinking about Anchor Steam of Firestone Union Jack IPA for my next one.

    Labatt Blue! 1/4 barrel!

Just bought a Danby on Craig's List ($325). I thought it was a bargin.

I see there are challenges with the Danby but I am encouraged by all the mods.

Just dialed it in (second pour since the first pour is too warm).

How much was the Expedition? That's my absolute favorite Imperial Stout, for the money, in 6 packs. It's a bargain at $16 a six pack.

$144.00 for the 1/4 Tapped it last night. Very, very nice. Even had to make me a Blackcastle. 2 parts Newcastle 1 part Exp. Stout. Thinking I might have to make a stout float this weekend for dessert.

Back to Blue here also, 1/2 barrel. The danby is all modded and dialed in. 36 deg, pour after pour.

Nice. My Craigs list purchase is a winner so far (and I had my doubts as I found this forum after I bought it). No mods (yet) but will install colloing tower mod. Second pour is holding at 38 deg and puring a perfect beer. First is 40% foam.

    1/4 Yuengling Light
    1/6 Blue Moon
    1/6 Killians
    1/6 Lancaster Milk Stout

The Killians and Blue Moon are both getting low, so I'm busy planning my next two.

We just replaces the keg of Anchor Summer with another keg of Anchor Summer (and will continue to do so as long as we can get it). It's one of the few I like.

    Default Question about "Double" IPA's

Fairly new to the craft brew beer game. I mainly like Porters and Stouts. Am considering a half barrel of seasonal Duschute Brewery "Hop Henge" DIPA. Don't like to much of the citrus taste in beers. Has anyone tried this? Bottles not available in my area, so I cannot try ahead of time, but I can get a keg. Don't know if I would like 13.2 Gallons of it. Do most IPAs have a citrus/grapefriut taste to them? Would the "Double" IPA have less citrus taste or more? Reviewers say it is a well balanced IPA with 8% alcohol content. Any thoughts?

I would NOT go with that, based on what you said. Any DIPA is going to be very citrusy. Most IPA's are, and especially DIPA's. And at 8%, it's not very sessionable, meaning you can't have a drinking session where you drink a few. It would take a long time drinking 13.2 gallons of an 8% beer.

Speak for yourself Mattmc, I can drink a 6 pack of Victory golden monkey or troegs troegnator and wish I had another 6 pack. 8 percent beers just mean you are getting your moneys worth. If you want something like miller light, go to the kitchen and turn on the faucet.

You are right though, he definately shouldn't buy a 1/2 of an IPA/DIPA if he doesn't like any citrus flavor before trying it, but an IPA would be a much better choice then lets say franziskaner.

I guess I'm speaking from my personal experience, I just finished a 1/2 barrel of Founders Dirty Bastard scotch ale, which is 8.5%, and it was tough to get through. I suppose it's not just abv, but also the type of beer. Dirty Bastard was too rich to drink a few of. An 8% IPA I could drink pretty easily.

Yeah, even if guiness was a great beer(it's good, just not great) I don't think I could drink more than 4 of them without getting full.

So, I would agree that alcohol content in relation to the beer type would equal it's "drinkability". Aww, man I really didn't want to use that word. Lets use your word. Alcohol content in relation to beer type would equal a beers sessionableness.

How do we make this an equation?
AC(cannot be lower than 2.5 - is that really a beer anyways or just mouthwash?) + beer type(need to assign numbers to each beer type) / (AC/2)= sessionableness(on a scale from 1-10)
    so

    AC + BT / (AC/2) = Sessionableness

    AC - alcohol content
    BT - Beer Type

Scale (help out here if you can - if this makes any sense)

    1- light beer
    10 - extra stout porter

Yuengling, 1/2 keg....if I could get Spaten in South Jersey, that would be in there. Anyone know of a Spaten keg distributor in South Jersey (across the river from Philadelphia, PA)? I believe it comes in 30L kegs.

    Lagunitas IPA
    Great Lakes Dortmunder

The first keg of Lagunitas I got was bad. I returned it and got a replacement and found out that they do not keep these kegs in cold storage. I was a little confused because the keg was at room temp but I trusted my keg guy and cooled it down. I poured a beer the next day and it was very tasty. I thought all domestic keg beer had to be refrigerated in order not to spoil. Has anyone else heard of this?

I am a Redhook guy all the way. My favorite is their spring offering of Copperhook but mostly I do ESB. I have run Sunrye, Longhammer IPA, Late Harvest, Winterhook, and their limited run of Hefeweizen. It helps that I am only 75 miles from the brewery and they give me a long term customer discount. I even built a trailer for my motorcycle so I can ride up and exchange my kegs with the bike. Anyway, right now its Redhook ESB.
